The Committee on Special Education (CSE) is responsible for children with a disability aged five to 21 years.

Evaluation Process:

  • Referral is made either by the school’s RTI team or by the parent
  • Parent signs consent and completes a Developmental History Form
  • School psychologist completes the evaluation which consists of: academic, cognitive and social emotional testing, a social history which includes the current physical examination, and observes the student in the classroom
  • Related services therapists complete evaluations if applicable
  • An initial eligibility meeting is scheduled within 60 days of receiving consent for testing
  • Recommendations from the CSE committee go to the school board for approval
  • Parent signs consent for services, recommended services are implemented

CSE Committee members may include:

  • Parent(s) of the child
  • General education teacher
  • Special education teacher
  • CSE chairperson
  • School psychologist
  • Parent member (upon parent request)
  • Related services therapists, if applicable
  • Student, if appropriate

Special education services may include:

  • Related services such as: Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech, Counseling, Assistive Technology
  • Consultant teacher services (direct or indirect)
  • Resource Room
  • Special class: Math or Reading
  • Curriculum support: Science or Social Studies
  • Special class: 8:1:1, 15:1:1 or 12:1:1
  • Aide support
