The Greenville wrestling team went to Section 2 classes on February 3, 2024. Coach Cullen wrote, I am proud of the entire team and their performance at classes. The team finished fourth overall which is quite an accomplishment. Greenville is sending 8 qualifiers to Glens Falls for State Qualifiers on February 10th. The wrestlers are peaking at the right time and it was a team effort that earned Greenville a 4th place team  finish.  The following wrestlers were place finishers at classes:

  • 108 Jude Aloisi (3rd)

  • 108 Connor Aloisi (Champion)

  • 116 Colby Beers (2nd)

  • 138 Trevor Flensted (4th)

  • 145 Kieran Cullen (Champion)

  • 160 Joseph Davis (Champion)

  • 170 Caleb Burrage (5th)

  • 190 Kaleb Pettit (3rd)

  • 285 Bryant Flensted (4th)

  • 285 Eian Lafferty (6th)

Greenville Wrestling sent a record 8 wrestlers to the State Qualifier at Cool Insuring Arena yesterday, February 10, 2024.  Half of them would be standing on the podium at the end of the day.  All of the wrestlers battled some of Section 2s toughest competition throughout the day.

Senior, Colby Beers (118 lbs), overall 6 seed, would be the first Spartan to secure his 2nd Place medal after defeating the 2 seed as well as the 3 seed in his first 2 matches.  He eventually would lose a tight match in the finals.  Unfortunately he would not secure a trip to the State Tournament after a tightly contested loss in a True Second Qualifier match.

Senior Captain, Kieran Cullen (145 lbs) would continue his record setting season (220 wins, 115 pins, 5X section 2 Class C Champ, 5X state qualifier finalist) by defeating 2 state qualifiers en route to his 145 lb Championship. At the end of the night, Cullen would be named Most Outstanding Wrestler (MOW) in the small school division.

Senior Captain, Joseph Davis (160 lbs) would pin the 3 seed to secure his spot in a finals rematch from the week before at Class Cs.  The finals would not disappoint, as Davis would push it to the limit by escaping with 3 tics left on the clock in triple overtime!

The day for Greenville wasn’t finished.  Senior Bryant Flensted (285 lbs) unseeded, would start his day by pinning the 6 seed in the first round.  He would lose a tight 3-1 match to the 3 seed in his next bout.  However, Flensted wasn’t finished for the day as he would battle through wrestle backs, taking out the 4 seed and eventually securing a 4th place finish.

Congratulations Greenville for placing 6th as a team out of a 28 team field.  Good luck to Kieran Cullen and Joseph Davis as they represent Greenville in two weeks at MVP Arena!

Greenville wrestling would continue the season sending 2 wrestlers, Joseph Davis and Kieran Cullen to the NYSPHSAA tournament on February 23rd & 24th at the MVP Arena in Albany NY. Davis lost in the quarterfinal round sending him into wrestle backs where he would come short of making the podium. Kieran Cullen would become Greenville’s first ever 145 lb State finalist. Cullen would lose a tight match in the finals earning him a 2nd place State finish.
