Greenville CSD - where everyone Learns, Teaches, Belongs!  Spartan STRONG!

April 23, 2021

Dear Families,

We have now begun the fourth quarter of the school year, and I want to (again) thank all of our students, families, teachers, and staff for all they have done to keep our amazing school open for students.  Everyone’s small acts of heroism have been greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to Ms. Asam and our amazing fifth graders, who celebrated the completion of their writing projects. Their research focused on the states in our great country. Learning how to complete research can be challenging, but the girls and boys did a fantastic job demonstrating all they learned by creating state-themed brochures!  The unit ended with oral reports that were recorded in front of their classmates.  Well Done!

Today, students had the opportunity to participate in a digital visit with NASA Astronaut, Captain Stephen Bowen.  Captain Bowen spoke to students as part of our District Career Day, He spoke about how he worked to achieve his life goal and travel beyond the Earth!

Beginning on Monday, we are no longer requiring students to carry their ipads and Chromebooks home each night. This will allow the devices to fully charge for school use, and eliminate a heavy item from student backpacks. Teachers will prepare a  “stay home” folder of work that could be completed if we needed to move to a brief period of asynchronous learning (if a classroom quarantine was in effect).  If the quarantine were to last more than a few days, we would ask parents to collect devices and additional materials (as we did last spring).

Our One School, One Book program is well underway and we are in the middle of reading DOG DAYS by Karen English.  We will read chapters 6-9 next week.  We hope you and your family are enjoying the story, and some extra time together!

Please note that we have two early dismissal days on the May calendar.  We will dismiss at 11:30 on Wednesday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 18.

Sincerely,

Peter Mahan

Elementary Principal
