Dear Greenville Community:
Safety remains a top priority at Greenville. With that in mind, I’d like to share that our annual School Safety Night has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the MS/HS Library Media Center. This event is an opportunity for parents, students, and families to learn more about our safety protocols and ask questions during a presentation and Q&A session.
Updates This School Year
Visitor Management System: We updated our visitor management system earlier this month. Now, it cross-checks even more databases and syncs directly with our Student Information System to notify our attendance clerks of custody-related alerts. As always, all visitors will be asked to present identification during their first visit of the school year. Visitors who have already provided identification this year may be asked to do so again as part of this update.
Bathroom Locks: The District has installed automatic locks on all bathroom doors. During a lockdown, these doors will automatically lock, but they will not automatically close. This design allows anyone in the hallway to safely enter and take shelter if needed. Once closed, the doors will remain securely locked. These locks are only activated during a lockdown and can not be initiated any other way. For example, a student cannot manually lock a bathroom door, and if a door is closed when there is no lockdown, it will not be locked.
Standard Response Protocols
Across New York State, there are five standard emergency responses to any emergency: Hold, Secure Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. This resource will help you become familiar with these terms and what each one means. For those who wish to learn more, a virtual safety training is available on our website. Throughout the year, we will have a number of drills to practice the Standard Response Protocols. These drills will always be announced in the Spartan Snapshot the week before they are scheduled.
Emergency Communications
In the event of an emergency, families will receive an initial notification via text, phone call, and email. We will continue to share timestamped updates with the community, even if no new information is available. Once the situation is resolved, we will send a message confirming that the Standard Response Protocol has been lifted. When appropriate, a follow-up message may be shared to provide additional details.
If you have specific questions while the District is experiencing an emergency, our School Communications Specialist will, to the best of their ability, monitor messages and respond to social media comments in a timely manner.
Update Your Contact Information
We encourage everyone to keep their contact information up-to-date in our records in case of an emergency. You can also use the “Student Information” section of ParentVue to update your information. If you are not currently receiving communications from the District, please email pizzolas@greenvillecsd.org or call 518-966-5070 x523.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep our schools safe. I look forward to seeing everyone at School Safety Night.
Sincerely,
Michael Bennett
Superintendent of Schools
