MIDDLE SCHOOL SCHEDULE AND CONTACT INFORMATION

SCHEDULE, GRADES 6-8

Students have 41-minute physical education classes every other day. The number of classes is approximately 20-22 per marking period.

PREPARATION EXPECTATIONS

Clothes
Students must change their clothes for physical education. Students need a sleeved t-shirt, a pair of mid-thigh to knee length shorts or sweat pants. These clothes are to be worn only in physical education classes. Students are encouraged to bring their clothes home weekly for washing.

Footwear
Students must wear sneakers and socks for physical education. Hiking boots and cleats are not acceptable footwear for class.

Jewelry
For the student and their classmates’ safety, jewelry must be removed prior to physical education. Examples of unsafe jewelry include: Metal hair items, earrings, piercing, necklaces, bracelets, rings and watches.

PE Lockers
All students are strongly encouraged to lock their PE lockers and to not share their combinations.

MEDICAL EXCUSES

Any student who has been ill or injured and is unable to participate in physical education must have a written note from a parent or doctor’s office indicating they should not take physical education. The note should be turned into the nurse when the student arrives at school. Any student excused for more than one week must have a written note from a physician.

GRADING

Middle School Grading(6-8)

Daily Grading: Students can earn 5 points per day in middle school physical education accounting for 80% of their report card grade. Points are earned daily using the rubric below:

(1pt ) Participation - changes clothes, wears sneakers, self-motivated, active close to 100% of the time,

(1pt) Positive Interactions - uses polite language, encourages others, respects the various abilities and contributions made by all

(1pt) Effort - activity level results in an increased, sustained heart rate relative to the skill, activity, or exercise

(1pt) Follows Rules and Procedures - rules and procedures are introduced at the start of each new school year; students must submit a signed syllabus listing all rules and procedures

(1pt) Skills - student shows growth and development of skills from one class to the next, open to and accepts feedback from teacher and classmates, uses feedback to make adjustments and show improvement


Skill Assessments & Written Assignments:

(20% of Grade) Students will have a variety of assessments each quarter, both written and skill based. Written assignments will be completed as homework.
