On Wednesday, Student Council hosted a Veterans Day breakfast. As one student put it "we're serving the men and women who served us." We are proud to continue this tradition every year as a small gesture to thank and honor the brave men and women who served our country.

Mrs. Payne, the Elementary School Counselor, is in classrooms this week teaching students about Healthy Boundaries. Her presentation is all about staying safe and knowing when to talk to an adult. Students created a list of 5 people in their lives that they feel safe talking to. Each grade receives a different version of the Healthy Boundaries presentation that is built upon every year.

Mrs. Rauf's 1st grade students had a fun time investigating pumpkins on Halloween! They made predictions, weighed, and even counted all of the seeds inside their pumpkins. One of the pumpkins weighed 10 pounds, and had over 560 seeds! Thank you to our parent volunteers, Mrs. Albano and Mrs. Wolf, and our Reading Specialist Mrs. Carl, for leading groups through the experiment. Students had a really great time and learned a lot about pumpkins!

Sharkey and Snyder's Living Environment classes made their own toothpaste during a "Toothpaste Challenge Lab" today! Students were challenged with developing a new toothpaste formula that smells, looks, and tastes great - and doesn't cost a fortune to make (but also cleans well, too). Our Toothpaste Scientists recorded the names and amounts of each component that they chose to use. They were encouraged to choose an abrasive, a cleaning agent, a thickening agent, a soothing agent, water, flavor oils, a sweetener, and food coloring in their mixture. Once created, they brought their toothpaste to the front of the room for a final test - on an egg! The teacher in charge of the experiment dyed eggs with different commonly ingested materials like coffee, red wine, tea, and blue dye. Students then scrubbed away at the dyed eggs to test their toothpaste's cleaning power. Colgate hasn't reached out for any high school toothpaste recipes yet - but we'll hang onto this lab just incase :) Please note: For safety purposes, students were NOT allowed to try their creations, or any of the ingredients.
