Dear Greenville Families:

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the valuable feedback our community has
provided regarding our district library collection and the processes surrounding book acquisition
and donation, as well as student access to books while using the library space.

We have collaborated with the Questar III School Library System Council, Greenville Educators
and Administrators, as well as received advice from the District Level Team, Board of Education,
and our School Attorneys to create the final process document, which you will find here.

These Library Collection Guidelines have been developed based on long-standing practices
within the district, and are consolidated into one written document. Furthermore, the guidelines
include additional resources for faculty, staff, and parents of Greenville Central School District to
formally challenge books, as well as a form for members of the school community to request to
donate books. This document will be presented during the discussion portion of the Board of
Education meeting on Monday, May 8th, 2023.

As part of the Board of Education’s commitment to offering more public engagement
opportunities, Greenville Central School District will host a Community Engagement Session on
Library Processes on Tuesday, May 30th, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm, in the MS/HS Library
Media Center. This session will be an opportunity for parents, educators, and community
stakeholders to provide constructive feedback and suggestions regarding student access to
books within the library. We will share an agenda for the session in the coming weeks, which will
provide more specific information on how the session will be conducted.
Once again, thank you for your feedback and support.

Sincerely,
Michael Bennett
