bridging the gap

Meet Chloe Uht, an ambitious sophomore at Greenville High School, working to bridge the gap between school and community through athletics.

Uht has always had a passion for sports and a personal interest in social media, but a trip to a Kansas City Chiefs game in the Fall opened her eyes to the possibility of combining the two into a career in sports media.

In November, Uht brought an idea to her School Counselor, Ken Landversicht, proposing the creation of a dedicated online presence for Greenville High School athletics. Together, they refined the concept, established clear goals, and developed a plan to bring the vision to life.

“I think there’s a disconnect between our school and our community, and in a lot of other places, sports help bridge that gap,” Uht shared in her pitch to the Superintendent. “So why not do it in Greenville?”

Working under the District’s Communications Specialist, Uht launched Greenville’s first-ever Facebook and Instagram pages devoted entirely to athletics. “I want to highlight individual player accomplishments and team successes,” she shared. “Not just for one sport, but for all sports and all athletes.”

To better promote the teams, Uht organized Greenville’s first-ever Athletics Media Day. Every member of each varsity team was photographed by a student photographer, Kacey Capozzi. The end result was dozens of high-quality photos that can be used to promote the teams online. The photos were also shared with students and families at no cost.

“These pages are the first of their kind in our area. They are student-run and student-centered. Chloe spends her free time creating custom graphics for every single score that she receives, making sure that each team finally gets the recognition that they deserve,” shared Sierra Pizzola, the District’s Communications Specialist.

One of the biggest challenges Uht has faced so far has been obtaining official game results, but she remains persistent and creative in finding solutions. The community response has been overwhelmingly positive. Families and community members have expressed appreciation for the increased visibility and recognition of Greenville’s athletic programs, while students enjoy being featured and seeing themselves represented online.

What began as a passion project has quickly taken on a life of its own. You can now find Uht on the sidelines at games, filming and capturing moments to share with the community. Outside of her athletics media work, Uht balances a full academic schedule, homework, community service, involvement in Student Council and DECA, and a job as a ski instructor.

To support Chloe Uht and stay connected with the varsity athletic teams, follow the Greenville Athletics pages on social media. The Greenville Athletics pages are student-run and managed/monitored by the District.
